Description
JumboSwitch
- Gigabit Ethernet
Multi-Service Access Platform
The Gigabit Ethernet JumboSwitch Self Healing
Fiber Network can be built up with a number of JumboSwitch nodes
interconnected by a dual fiber optic cable to form many
different topologies, e.g. Redundant Rings, Multi-Drop Bus,
Ring-and-Bus, Ring-on-Ring etc. Depending on the bandwidth
consumed, the network may consist of up to 255 JumboSwitchs.
The JumboSwitch
network architecture is based on 4 major system components:
-
The Gigabit
Ethernet Fiber Optic Backbone - on which all information
from the JumboSwitch equipment connected to the fiber
backbone is multiplexed.
-
The JumboSwitch
Nodes - which form the access points to the network.
-
The Interface
Cards - on the JumboSwitch, provide the connectivity of
T1/E1, RS-232/RS485, Analog Telephones, Ethernet (fiber or
copper) to the network.
-
The JumboSwitch
Management System (JMS) - for central network management.
The JumboSwitch
supports the following types of optical fibers:
-
50/125 ”m and
62.5/125 ”m multimode fiber; Operating at 850nm
-
9/125 ”m
single-mode fiber, Operating at 1300nm or 1550nm
-
9/125”m WDM,
single-mode, single-core fiber, Operating at 1300nm and
1550nm.
Each JumboSwitch
is mounted in a 19" rack and is equipped with Main and
Management cards, interface cards and one or more power supply
modules. The Main card is a Gigabit Ethernet central fabric. Its
main function is to provide communication between the Gigabit
Ethernet optical backbone, the backplane of JumboSwitch card
cage, and all interface cards housed in the same cage.
Two types of card cages can be used for the JumboSwitch. For the
4U X 19" card cage, a maximum of 7 Interface cards can be housed
together. For the smaller 2U X 19" card cage, 2 interface cards
can be allotted.
Specially
designed for industrial applications, the JumboSwitch is a fully
managed Gigabit switch with optional wide operating temperature
range between -40șC to +80șC, fast self-healing or path-recovery
capability, extensive remote management functions, and
hot-swappable interface cards.
Interface
Cards
There is a JumboSwitch Interface Card for most popular
communication interfaces including T1/E1, Telephones, Serial,
Turbo Serial, Ethernet, and GigaE ports. These interface cards
provide for smooth connectivity and seamless conversion to IP
packets for transporting onto the Gigabit Ethernet backbone.
For data applications: RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, T1 & E1.
Topologies include Point-to-Point, Point-to-Multi-Point, and
Self Healing Multi-Drop Ring or Bus. The Turbo Serial card is
designed for real time critical communication between protective
relays with a maximum signal latency of less than 10ms.
For voice
applications: 2-Wire VoIP FXS and FXO cards. FXS is used to
connect directly with analog telephones and FXO is used to
connect with PABXs. Refer to the Data Sheet Section for
different combinations.
For Ethernet
connections: There are auto-negotiating Fast Ethernet
(10/100Mbps) and GigaE (10/100/1000Mbps) cards with different
media types and optical power selections.
All Interface
Cards are designed with harsh working environments in mind.
Industrial hardened designs include the use of industrial grade
components, sturdy product construction, no fans or moving
parts, and plug-and-play friendliness.
All Interface
Cards are capable of hot swapping on line, without disturbing
the real time traffic on the backbone.
All JumboSwitch
cards are capable of software downloads to simplify the
procedures involved when performing version upgrades.
JumboSwitch Management System (JMS)
The JumboSwitch
Management System runs on a Window based PC. It provides the
operator with a clear picture of the status of the network and
the connected interface cards. Many management functions can be
performed through the JMS, e.g. IP address management,
connectionless topology design and provisioning, software
download, service provisioning, re-booting of interface cards,
etc. The JumboSwitch network does not require the presence of
the JMS to operate.
Physical
properties of any card on the network, e.g. ambient temperature,
part number, serial number, software/firmware version, etc. can
be collected and monitored through the JumboSwitch Management
System located at the Central Control.
The JMS provides
a simple and effective way to centralize management of the
network.
